Overview
ProofEstimate is an estimating and supplement tool for roofing contractors. The paperwork around an insurance claim is where the margin on a job is won or lost, and it is usually done twice — roughly on site, properly back at the office.
The product exists to make the on-site pass the only pass.
The challenge
The work happens on a roof or in a driveway, on a phone, often with one hand free. Anything that assumes a desk and a large screen gets abandoned and redone later.
The crews doing the work do not all share a first language, and estimating software that exists only in English quietly limits who on the team can do the job.
What we did
The interface was designed for a phone held outdoors first, and scales up to a laptop rather than the other way round.
The application ships in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese. Language is handled at the presentation layer only — the business rules return identifiers, never sentences — so a new language is a translation file rather than a rewrite.
Contractors can carry their own identity through the documents they send, with their logo and details on the estimate.
